The End of the Road The Festina Affair and the Tour that Almost Wrecked Cycling Alasdair Fotheringham 9781472913043 Books
Nothing really groundbreaking in this one. A nice synopsis of the race and drama along with interviews from some of the key players. The writing style could use some work as the author repeats himself several times throughout the novel using almost exactly the same words. This made the book far more tedious to read than I would have liked. Not the definitive book about the race that it was hyped as. As an avid cycling fan I was disappointed.Product details

The End of the Road The Festina Affair and the Tour that Almost Wrecked Cycling Alasdair Fotheringham 9781472913043 Books Reviews
Picked this up after reading Willy Voet's "Breaking the Chain". His was a great but very short book showing his experience with the Festina affair and his background and history of doping involvement. End of the Road is a brilliant addition to the story giving a broader outside view of the confusion between the active tour and the increasing scandal and how close it came to destroying the entire tour. The chapters where each stage is described in detail from both the inside into the stages itself and overall impact on the riders, especially in the later stages was fascinating. The chapter on Stage 15 in particular was masterful and led me to watch the whole thing on YouTube, gobsmacked by one of the most insane performances by Pantani or any rider I have ever scene. Must read for anyone wanting an insight into the 98 tour from outside and inside.
Great read
Excellent rendition of the intrigue that was this era.No melodrama. Best read if you also look at the races on Facebook. Gives great insight.EPO made hills look like flat roads.
Incedible detail. A must read for all cycling fans.
Good book covering the scandal
An. Amazing story. We all know the general outline, but the details tell a great story
If you are a serious cycling fan you will enjoy this book. If not, then I suggest you pass. Very detailed, long winded account of the Festina affair and those that were part of it. Let me say this again, very detailed of those who were part of this cycling take down. Some chapters flow and are written well and others chapters seem rushed and the story telling choppy. You may pick it up and have trouble finishing it. Just a heads up.
